Aparna Sanwalka

BCom, RECE, Dip Psych, M.ADS, RBT Certificate Executive Director | Supervising Therapist | Education Advocate | Case Manager

  • Aparna Sanwalka is a seasoned education advocate and a committed leader in the autism community with a deep passion for supporting children, youth, and families touched by Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). She holds a Bachelor’s in Commerce, a Diploma in Psychology, a Master’s in Applied Disability Studies (M.ADS), and is a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE). Aparna’s extensive experience spans over two decades, with a focus on education, mental health, and advocacy.
  • Her early career was marked by a strong dedication to creating impactful educational programs, including curating and training the Home Day Care Provider Course under the Job Link Program at Riverdale Immigrant Women’s Center (RWIC). This course has since influenced college curriculums across Ontario. Aparna has also been a key figure in Autism Ontario, leading programs for South Asian families who speak Hindi, Punjabi, and Urdu, ensuring that they receive culturally appropriate support.
  • Aparna’s advocacy work is equally impressive. She founded the Indian Student Association at the University of Toronto’s Scarborough campus and the Youth Group for Arya Samaj-Toronto, where she played pivotal roles in community engagement, fundraising, and advising the board. Her commitment to social causes took her to Chandigarh, India, in February 2014, where she provided essential support to a local community.
  • In 2019, Aparna established the ARS Scholarship in honor of her late brother, which supports secondary education students connected to or serving the autism community. Her voice was also heard at Queen’s Park, where she spoke in favor of Bill 13, a piece of legislation that was later enacted into law.
Aparna’s dedication to supporting the autism community extends to her participation in events like the Special Olympics Ontario, where she represented and advocated for individuals with autism.
